Lung function was measured by spirometry. Measures included FEV1, forced vital capacity (FVC), FEV1/FVC ratio, and forced expiratory flow at 75% of FVC (FEF75).

Airway interrupter resistance (Rint) was measured in kilo-pascals per liter during tidal expiration, with occlusion of the airway at peak expiratory flow. Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) in parts per billion (ppb) was measured using the NIOX chemiluminescence analyzer.

The shuttle run test is a validated assessment of physcial fitness. In the task, participants have to continuously run between two lines that are twenty meters apart and reach the lines before a recorded beep. Measurements include performance, heart rate, heart rate variability, and lung capacity.

The peak flow test was used to measure lung capacity as an indication of asthma. The lung capacity is the amount of air that can be expelled from the lungs after a maximum inhalation. The test included lung capacity measured at rest and after the shuttle run test.
