Devereux Child Behavior (DCB) rating scale

The Devereux Child Behavior (DCB) rating scale assesses aggressive behavior, anxiety problems, attention problems, dependency, physical coordination problems, and emotional lability. Parents are asked to rate their children's behavior in the past 2 months on a 5-point scale, with 1 = never and 5= very frequently.

NTR uses 42 items from the DCB. Items were chosen whose scale was associated with intelligence (distractibility, poor self-care, social isolation, inadequate need for independence, social aggression, and unethical behavior). In addition, the questionnaire included items from scales that are related to emotional problem behavior. Other problem behavior dimensions included were: coordination body, messiness/sloppiness, inability to delay, and anxious-fearful ideation. Four items were included that did not belong to one of the behavior dimensions.

Short description of the wave	The YS_5 survey is sent to the mothers around the 5th birth year of the twins (mean age = 5.52 years, SD = 0.55 years). The survey includes items on child care and school, growth, zygosity, toilet training, asthma and eczema, fine motor coordination, language development, and problem behaviors as assessed by a short version of the Devereux Child Behavior Checklist (DCB). The booklet includes an extra section for fathers of twins to report about behavior problems. From 2011 onward, items on child care and school, living and family situation were updated and items on wellbeing were added. From the second half of 2015 the short form of the Childhood Behavior Questionnaire (CBQ) was added. From 2017 the surveys no longer have a separate section for the father.

YE_ATTEF1 Wave

Wave alternate title	Genetics of attention and executive functioning measurement 1 YE_ATTEF1
Short description of the wave	The YE_ATTEF1 project aimed to examine the etiology of individual differences on attention problems, attention, executive functioning and cognition in 5 to 6-year old twins (mean age = 5.8 years, SD = 0.1 years). This project includes the first measurement of a longitudinal study on the source of individual differences in attention, executive functioning, and cognition in children. Behavioral data was collected with parental and teacher surveys (Aandachtstekort Stoornis met Hyperactiviteit (ASH), Teacher Report Form (TRF), Conners’ Rating Scale, and Devereux Child Behavior Rating Scale (DCB)). Neurocognitive data was collected with computerized tasks (ANT), IQ was assessed with the Revised Amsterdam Child Intelligence Test (RAKIT) and DNA samples were collected by buccal swabs.

The survey includes items on child care and school, growth, zygosity, toilet training, asthma and eczema, fine motor coordination, language development, and problem behaviors as assessed by a short version of the Devereux Child Behavior Checklist (DCB). The booklet includes an extra section for fathers of twins to report about behavior problems. From 2011 onward, items on child care and school, living and family situation were updated and items on wellbeing were added. From the second half of 2015 the short form of the Childhood Behavior Questionnaire (CBQ) was added. Behavioral data was collected with parental and teacher surveys (Aandachtstekort Stoornis met Hyperactiviteit (ASH), Teacher Report Form (TRF), Conners’ Rating Scale, and Devereux Child Behavior Rating Scale (DCB)).
