Neonatal Perception Inventory (NPI)

The Neonatal Perception Inventory (NPI) measures expectations of the hypothetical ‘average’ baby. Questions cover behaviors like crying, feeding, spitting up, sleeping problems, intestinal problems, and regular sleeping/eating patterns. Participants reported on 6 questions, answered on a 4-point Likert scale.

The ‘first part: expectancy of the average infant’ was administered before birth. The ‘last part: perception of one's own infant’ was administered after birth.
