Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ)

A food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) consists of a finite list of foods and beverages with response categories to indicate usual frequency of consumption over the time period queried.

The FFQs used in the Generation R Study were developed based on results from a national food consumption survey in the Netherlands, and included food items that are population and age specific. Included questions concern the frequency of consumption and portion sizes of these foods. Briefly, the FFQ during pregnancy has 293 items for pregnant women. The FFQ at 1 year has 221 items for the infant. The FFQ at 2 years was only assessed in the focus cohort. The FFQ at 8 years has 71 items.
