Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals (CELF) - Pragmatics

The Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals (CELF) was designed to assess general language ability and specific language domains, and screen for language disorders in children and youth between 5 and 18 years. The Preschool version is meant for toddlers between 3 and 6 years old. The CELF consists of many subscales, such as Concepts and Following Directions, Word Structure, Word Associations, and Pragmatics.

In YOUth, the Pragmatics subscale was used, which assesses the comprehension of social rules. Besides the CELF, the spoken languages in the child's environment were assessed as well. Specifically, in YOUth - Baby and Child, both the CELF-Preschool-2-NL-Pragmatics and the CELF-4-NL-Pragmatics were used. In YOUth Child and Adolescent, only the CELF-4-NL-Pragmatics was used.
