Blood pressure

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of arteries as the heart pumps blood around the body. Systolic pressure is the pressure when the heart contracts and pushes blood out and diastolic pressure is the pressure when the heart relaxes and fills with blood. In adults, the systolic pressure normally ranges between 80 and 120 and the diastolic pressure between 60 and 90.

In TRAILS, blood pressure was assessed at rest, during orthostatic stress, during the Spatial Orienting Task, and during the Bangor Gambling task. The first measurement wave only includes blood pressure in supine and standing positions.
