Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) 1½-5

The Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL 1½-5) is part of the Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment (ASEBA) taxonomy and is a validated instrument to assess psychiatric symptoms in both clinical and research settings. The ASEBA parent report version for youths 1½ to 5 years of age (CBCL 1½-5) includes the syndrome scales Emotionally Reactive, Anxious/Depressed, Somatic Complaints, Withdrawn, Attention Problems, Aggressive Behavior, and Sleep Problems, the DSM-oriented scales Depressive Problems, Anxiety Problems, Autism Spectrum Problems, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Problems, and Oppositional Defiant Problems, and the broadband scales Internalizing, Externalizing, and Total Problems.

In NTR project YS_3, the version “Form 1992” was used from 1990 to 2008. The version “Form 2001” is used from 2009. In the “Form 2001”, the items 51 (too fat) and 79 (collects things he/she does not need) were replaced by 51 (shows panic for no good reason) and 79 (rapids shifts between sadness and excitement). The 2 items from the “Form 1992” (too fat and collects things) were added as extra items at the end of the CBCL. In 2010, the CBCL1-1.5 was sent to both parents of 2-6 year old triplets, 2-3 year old triplets were binned into NTR project YS_TRIP3, and 4-6 year old triplets were binned into NTR project YS_TRIP5. After 2010, the collection of the CBCL1.5-5 is scheduled anually for age groups 3 (YS_TRIP3) and 5 (YS_TRIP5). Instead of the DSM-oriented scales "Depressive Problems" and "Autism Spectrum Problems", the NTR has the DSM-oriented scales "Affective Problems" and "Pervasive Development Problems" available.
