Adult Behavior Checklist (ABCL)

The Adult Behavior Check List (ABCL) is part of the Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment (ASEBA) taxonomy and is a validated instrument to assess psychiatric symptoms in both clinical and research settings. The ASEBA parent report version for adults 18 to 59 years old includes the syndrome scales Anxious/Depressed, Withdrawn, Somatic Complaints, Thought Problems, Attention Problems, Aggressive Behavior, Rule Breaking Behavior, and Intrusive, the DSM-oriented scales Depressive Problems, Anxiety Problems, Somatic Problems, Avoidant Personality Problems, Avoidant Personality Problems, and Antisocial Personality Problems, the substance use scales Tobacco, Alcohol, Drugs, and Mean Substance Use, the broadband scales Internalizing, Externalizing, and Total Problems, and, optionally, the adaptive functioning scales Friends, Spouse/Partner, Family, Job, Education, and Personal Strengths.

In TRAILS, the syndrome scales anxious/depressed, withdrawn, somatic complaints, thought problems, attention problems, aggressive behavior, rule breaking behavior, and intrusive were assessed, the DSM-oriented scales depressive problems, anxiety problems, somatic problems, avoidant personality problems, and antisocial personality problems, and the broadband scales internalizing, externalizing, and total problems.
