Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) 6-18 - Competence scales

The Competence scales from the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) 6-18 assess children's competence on an activity level, a social level, and a school level. The CBCL Competence scales consist of a total of 20 items, for instance, focusing on the total number of sports or organisations the child participates in and how active they are compared to others the same age.

At age 8, main caregivers filled in all subscales, except for the questions on job quality. At age 10, main caregivers only filled in the school subscale. At age 14, main caregivers reported on the school subscale, and on a selection of questions from the social domain (i.e., the friends-related questions). At age 14, children reported on a selection of questions from the subscale activities (i.e., sport-related questions).
