Parent-Child Interaction

The Free Play Task aims to measure the way parents and their children interact, by observing them during free play without instructions.

In TRAILS Next, parent-child interaction was videotaped with both parents separately. In the first 10 minutes, the child and parent played freely with toys without any instruction. Afterwards, the child and parent were instructed to build a tower using blocks like they would normally do, lasting about 5 minutes. Finally, they were instructed to clean up all the toys and put them in the suitcase (5 minutes). In all, the interaction took about 20 minutes.
