Heart rate

Heart rate is the number of times a heart beats per minute and normally ranges between 60 and 100 times for adults. Heart rate variability is the time fluctuation between heart beats.

In TRAILS, heart rate and heart rate variability were measured at rest, during orthostatic stress, during the Spatial Orienting Task, the Bangor Gambling task, the Trier Social Stress Test, and during the shuttle run test. The first measurement wave included heart rate and heart rate variability at rest (supine and standing) and during the shuttle run test heart rate variability was not measured.
