Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA)

Respiratory sinus arrhythmia is part of the autonomic nervous system and serves to optimize gas exchange between the lungs and the circulatory system. It was measured through an electrocardiogram (ECG) and included respiratory sinus arrhythmia at rest, during orthostatic stress, and during the Spatial Orienting Task and Bangor Gambling Task.

The first measurement wave in TRAILS only included respiratory sinus arrhythmia at rest (supine and standing).
