Buccal swab

Buccal swabs are collections of buccal cell scrapings obtained by rubbing buds along the inside of the mouth.

In TRAILS Next, a buccal swab was taken from the child and both biological parents in the third measurement wave (T3, second house visit). In case no heel prick blood and buccal swab were available at all, new attempts at obtaining buccal swabs were made in the fourth (T4, third house visit) or fifth (T5, fourth house visit) measurement waves.
