In Heart beat perception, participants were asked to judge their own heart rate by introspective visceral awareness, i.e. without palpitating the arterial pulse signal at wrist or neck. They judged their mean heart rate per minute over three short periods (25, 35 and 45 seconds).

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of arteries as the heart pumps blood around the body. Systolic pressure is the pressure when the heart contracts and pushes blood out and diastolic pressure is the pressure when the heart relaxes and fills with blood. In adults, the systolic pressure normally ranges between 80 and 120 and the...

Respiratory sinus arrhythmia is part of the autonomic nervous system and serves to optimize gas exchange between the lungs and the circulatory system. It was measured through an electrocardiogram (ECG) and included respiratory sinus arrhythmia at rest, during orthostatic stress, and during the Spatial Orienting Task and Bangor Gambling Task.

Baroreflex Sensitivity (BRS) assessment using an electrocardiogram (ECG). The baroreflex is part of the autonomic nervous system and helps to maintain the blood pressure at a constant level. Measurements include baroreflex sensitivity at rest, during orthostatic stress, and during the Spatial Orienting Task and Bangor Gambling Task.

The peak flow test was used to measure lung capacity as an indication of asthma. The lung capacity is the amount of air that can be expelled from the lungs after a maximum inhalation. The test included lung capacity measured at rest and after the shuttle run test.

The pre-ejection period (PEP) as measured through Impedance Cardiography (ICG) is the time interval between the electrical stimulation of the ventricles and the opening of the aortic valve. Variables include the pre-ejection period at rest, during orthostatic stress, and during the Spatial Orienting Task, Bangor Gambling Task, and Trier Social Stress Test.
